Imagine waking up to watch the sunrise with your love, and standing still amongst the beauty of nature. Sole & Keanu did just that during their sunrise session at Skyline Trail. It was truly a special morning!
Sole & Keanu’s love for each other was so evident in the words they shared, the vows exchanged, and the adventure that was had against the backdrop of Mount Rainier.
The steep hike up to Skyline Trail was not for the faint of heart, but oh was it worth it. As the sun peeked over the horizon, casting its warm glow over everything in its path, we were all inspired by the beauty of the moment. It was as if time stood still, allowing us to bask in the magic of the morning.
In a world that is constantly moving and changing, there is something special about standing still amongst nature. It transcends the passing of time and reminds us of what is truly important.
Here’s to Sole & Keanu, to their adventurous spirits and their desire to chase the sunrise hand in hand!
Eloping at Skyline Trail
This iconic trail offers the perfect setting for couples who want to exchange vows in one of the most picturesque and secluded locations in the Pacific Northwest. Skyline Trail is a loop that is 5.5 miles long with an elevation gain of 1,700 feet. If you choose to hike the entire loop, it can take 3-5 hours to complete. Here’s why you should consider Skyline Trail for your elopement:
1. Breathtaking views-the trail offers unique panoramic views of Mount Rainier, the tallest mountain in Washington and an iconic symbol of the Pacific Northwest. Whether you’re saying your vows with the mountain towering behind you or with the surrounding valleys stretching below, every angle offers a stunning backdrop for your photos. The trail passes through a variety of landscapes, including alpine meadows, glacier-carved ridges, and waterfalls, making it perfect for capturing both the grandeur and intimate moments of your special day.
2. Seasonal Beauty-From July through September, the trail is adorned with colorful wildflowers, including lupines, Indian paintbrush, and avalanche lilies, creating a dreamy atmosphere for your wedding day. Early autumn offers beautiful fall foliage, while a winter elopement can be a magical snow-covered experience.
3. The Adventure of a Lifetime-For couples who love the outdoors, Skyline Trail offers the chance to combine adventure with romance. The trail can be as challenging or as leisurely as you like, with shorter, scenic routes for a more relaxed experience or longer hikes for those who want to go deeper into the wilderness. You can even choose a quiet spot to exchange vows with no one else around, making your elopement an unforgettable and personal adventure.
When is the Best Time to Elope at Skyline Trail?
Choosing the right time of year for your elopement at Skyline Trail is crucial, as weather conditions in Mount Rainier National Park can vary significantly throughout the year.
SUMMER (July-September): This is the most popular time for elopements because the trail is snow-free, and the wildflowers are in full bloom. The weather is mild, but it’s always good to be prepared for sudden changes and bring layers.
AUTUMN (Late September-October): If you love the idea of vibrant fall colors and cooler temperatures, early autumn is a beautiful time to elope at Skyline Trail. The crowds thin out, and the crisp air adds a cozy feel.
WINTER (November-March): While the park is covered in snow, winter elopements at Skyline Trail are possible with the right gear. If you’re dreaming of saying your vows in a snowy wonderland with Mount Rainier looming in the background, winter is the perfect time for you. Be sure to check road conditions and be prepared for winter hiking.
Permits and Regulations
Special Use Permit: A wedding ceremony in Mount Rainier National Park requires a Special Use Permit. This can be obtained by contacting the park directly, and it’s recommended to apply well in advance of your elopement date, as there can be processing time.
Photography Permit: If you’re bringing a professional photographer (and you should!), they will need a commercial photography permit. This ensures that all photography is in compliance with park regulations.
Group Size Restrictions: To maintain the natural beauty and serenity of the park, there are limits on the number of guests allowed for elopements. Smaller groups are generally preferred to minimize impact on the environment.
Leave No Trace: I encourage all couples to practice Leave No Trace ethics on their wedding day. Here are a few ways to ensure your elopement leaves a positive impact on the park:
1. Stay on designated trails to protect fragile alpine meadows and wildflowers.
2. Avoid bringing items like confetti, rice, or any non-natural materials that could harm wildlife or the environment.
3. Use eco-friendly wedding elements, such as biodegradable materials and natural flowers.
For the most up-to-date information on permits, visit the National Park Service website.
